Barridas are a popular move in Argentine tango but they can take up more space on the dance floor than desirable for good floor craft. At this intensive workshop you will be given various barridas, single, double and multiple, that do not take up any space in the ronda as they can be danced in the space between the couple. These compact barridas are a perfect tool for expressing rhythmic variation in the music and this will open up possibilities for expressing your musicality as well as improve your floor craft. We will have a detailed look at what exactly is the lead for a barrida and what options the follower has.
Miriam and Nicolas will also give you their styling tips for both leaders and followers as well as focusing your awareness on the lead and follow first and foremost and then the music and only moving in reference to the music. You will also be given strengthening exercises designed to get technical principles assimilated into your muscle memory and make you look more like a real tango dancer by enhancing your posture, balance and flexibility.
No need to bring a partner. This is an open-level workshop, all welcome!

My weekly Argentine tango classes on Wednesday evenings are a friendly mixed-level group really welcoming and encouraging for total beginners as well as being challenging for experienced tango dancers because I passionately believe that a large part of the tango experience is about being able to adjust ourselves to various different dance partners in the most mutually pleasurable way whatever their level of experience.
Come and join us in Colchester city centre 7:30-9:30pm, £10 on Wednesdays.
Crosses come in many varieties and at this workshop Miles and Miriam will give you an overview of the different possibilities and a simple yet unusual technique for cross creation in a way that gives clarity to the lead and fully empowers the follower. Miles is American and so speaks English fluently and can verbally explain complex concepts in English as well as demonstrate. He is in the UK for one day only just to teach this workshop so this is a special opportunity for you to learn form his extensive technical understanding of Argentine tango as well as his long experience as a tango teacher.

Miles Tangos has been a social tango teacher for 19 years. He teaches primarily one-on-one through his self-developed Intensive Process, taking students from zero to confident social dancer in under three months, with a level of clarity and control that typically takes a decade to build. His teaching ideology is dedicated exclusively to ‘Social’ Argentine Tango: clean walking, comfortable embrace, hyper aware and contained self control, compact movement, intelligent floorcraft skills, and musical precision. Through his platform, https://tangotopics.com and his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@tangotopicsvideos), he has built an extensive body of work (900+ videos) focused on foundational vocabulary, floorcraft mastery, and musical interpretation for the social dance floor.
